The hosts had the lead twice through Giancarlo Maldonado and the coaches son Ricardo Paez but were pegged back both times by underdogs Bolivia with goals from ex-Middlesborough star Jamie Moreno and Juan Carlos Arce.

Peru 3 - Uruguay 0

Miguel Villanta, Juan Carlos Marino and Paolo Guerrero grabbed the goals as Peru shocked Tournament dark horse Uruguay in the fist match.
