Reports in the Belgian media suggest that West Ham are looking at a bid for Standard Lieges left back Landry Mulemo. The Congolese born defender has become somewhat unsettled in recent months at last seasons Belgian league winners after a disappointing start to this season, and could be looking for a move away.
West Ham are by no means the only side monitoring the availability of Mulemo, who has impressed when given the chance to play in the Champions League. Over the summer several Championship and SPL sides were thought to be keen on Mulemo, and now the German pair of Eintracht Frankfurt and Hertha Berlin are also considering a move.
Anderlecht were also thought to be keen on the defender, with his agent Marc Wilmots, openly stating that hed told the hierarchy at the Constant Vandenstock, that he thought Mulemo would represent an outstanding acquisition.
Mulemo has expressed dissatisfaction with the coaching style of Standard boss Laslzo Boloni by recently stating in an interview to De Standaard that the Hungarian manager only speaks to about four key players in the team. Mulemo was recently dropped in favour of former Spurs left-back Ricardo Rocha, but says hes still waiting for an explanation as to why he was passed over.
The Congolese born defender has been with Standard for three seasons, and was an integral part of the Championship winning side of last season, a title they won in a play-off against Anderlecht. However after being refused permission to talk to interested teams from abroad in the summer, Mulemo has grown disenchanted with life in Eastern Belgium.
West Ham could use a few defensive acquisitions over the winter transfer window, after the Hammers shipped six in the past two matches to Burnley and Hull alone. With cash tight for Gianfranco Zola, a less well-known name such as Mulemo might be ideal as he looks to guide West Ham to the safer waters of mid-table.
