Inter Milan to rival Manchester United and City for Guti?

After rumours in recent times that the Manchester pair of both United and City were looking at Real Madrid midfielder Guti, it looks like they may face some competition from at least Inter Milan, and possibly others in Italy too.

Last week rumours were rife that Guti was a definite candidate to end up in the Premiership with both Manchester giants strongly linked with a move for the 33-year-old, with some sites even reporting that the former Spanish international was learning English ahead of his move.

However, it would now seem that Guti is veering away from a move to England in favour of one to Serie A, with Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan deemed to be most interested.

Guti looks like one of a number of candidates whose days at the Bernabeau appear to be numbered. Over the course of the season Guti has made just three starts and made a further five appearances from the bench, and after spending his entire career with the club has decided it may be time to seek a new challenge.

With well over 200 appearances at the very highest level, the cultured midfielder would be an interesting acquisition for a Premiership club seeking some experience in the middle of the pitch. In recent times Guti has evolved into a more defensively minded player, and could fill either a deeper role or be used further forward.

Manchester United were thought to be especially keen on Guti to act as cover for the injured Paul Scholes, but were put off by the £4 million price tag.

Nevertheless there would be concerns over whether Guti would be able to adapt to the more robust style of play in England. Even in Spain he has a reputation for being a player who doesn’t always favour a tackle, so a move to Italy, where the pace of the game is slower, may be a better option for Guti.

It’s not only Inter Milan, who have been casting their eye over Guti. It’s understood that AC Milan and Sampdoria have both expressed some tentative interest in acquiring Guti’s services in the winter.
