Ligue 1 gets exciting at last
The words Ligue 1 and exciting aren’t necessarily mutually compatible. In fact, the French league still has the lowest goal average of any of the 5 major European championships. However, after nearly a decade of total Lyon domination it looks like the rest of France is getting its act together and a credible challenge could be mounted to the Gerland’s side’s recent hegemony. Where have all the World-Class German players gone?
A recent poll by a well respected football magazine last month of the World's current 100 top players included just 4 German players in it. That’s only 1 more than Mali, a country that barely can compete with Germany in terms of football pedigree, history and resources. The perceived dearth of German quality hasn’t gone unnoticed with one commentator during the Stuttgart-Bayern match echoing that same sentiment.
