European Championship History: Czech Republic

The Czech Republic, and previously Czechoslovakia, have always enjoyed a good record at the European Championships and have reserved some of their best tournament form for the European Championship rather than the World Cup, although they did finish second in both 1938 and 1962 at the World edition. Winners of the tournament in 1976 against Germany they also finished as runners up in 1996, loosing to Germany 20 years later, and also made it to the semi final just four years ago in Portugal.

Key Player

Czech Republic's key player - Milan Baros

Seldom can a player have dazzled in international colours yet frustrated in equal measure in club colours more than Milan Baros. Czech Republic - Looking for creativity

Associated with strong technique and often viewed as potential outsides at recent tournaments, the Czechs at Euro 2008 may find the going somewhat tougher. The double blow of loosing Pavel Nedved through retirement and his replacement Tomas Rosicky to injury means that there are legitimate question marks over the depth of the squad and the ability of the Czechs to create the necessary chances.
