Eriksson Must Go England manager Sven Goran Eriksson must take the brunt of the blame for England's lifeless performance away at Northern Ireland in Belfast. For the third game running, his players failed to create many meaningful opportunities against supposedly weaker opposition.
Take nothing away from the Irish; they battled hard throughout and produced an extremely polished display with some well-organised defending. However, they still found the time to create chances and eventually managed to convert one through David Healy.
Eriksson has clearly gone stale as England manager and his days must surely now be numbered. He has long been criticised for his lack of imagination but the three most recent games have shown just how limited his ability to motivate players and devise tactics really is. As always, the fans have been the real victims and now their trip to Germany next year is in serious jeopardy. There's still time to rectify the situation and I would strongly urge the FA to be proactive for once and make a change at the top before it is too late. - Paul |
