The third World Cup was played in France as Europe prepared for World War I. Only fifteen teams took part as Austria, who had qualified, was consumed by Hitler's Germany. Brazil were the only team to travel from South America, Cuba came from North America and the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) came from Asia.
