Harry Redknapp appears to be already planning his summer spending activity at White Hart Lane, with a number of defensively minded players being linked with a move to the London side in the summer. The most creditable interest so far appears to be in Brazilian international defender Miranda, who currently plies his trade at Sao Paulo. Other potential recruits are thought to be Glenn Johnson and Croat full-back Daniel Pranjic.

I'm not the type of person to get upset on hearing the news that a player, no matter how great, is hanging up his boots. Being an Arsenal fan, I knew of friends who shed tears when Dennis Bergkamp said goodbye to football, and I should have been too, but I strangely wasn't. Reports from France today suggest that Tottenham striking target Fred is expected to return to his homeland Brazil in the transfer window eschewing the interest of several clubs including Tottenham. The 49th edition of the Copa Libertadores promises to be another classic Brazil-Argentina contest with some of South America's best known teams lining up to contest this year's tournament. Copa America Preview
