Reports from both Italy and Spain suggest that Blackburn Rovers are set to be disappointed in their quest to tie up Sebastian Eguren.
The Uruguayan international had been linked earlier in the transfer window with a move to Ewood Park on a loan deal from his current side Villarreal.
However, Eguren’s agent has now confirmed that his client is in advanced talks with Lazio and expects the player to join the Biancoceleste shortly.
Blackburn were thought to have identified Eguren as a possible target in the transfer window has Big Sam and the management team look for possible options to help bolster their squad. Eguren has been struggling for games in La Liga this season, and is in need of matches to help him cement a place in the Uruguay World Cup squad ahead of the tournament in the summer, for which his country qualified thanks to a narrow play-off victory over Costa Rica.
It would now seem that Eguren prefers a move to the Italian capital over a switch to Lancarshire, and Blackburn will have to switch their attentions elsewhere.
West Ham United are believed to be close to sealing a deal to secure the services of Icelandic forward Eidur Gudjohnsen from Monaco. The 31 year-old has been on the radar at Upton Park for some time, having played alongside current Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola at Chelsea, but the Premier League club failed in an attempt to snap him up last summer when he left Barcelona to move to France.
Gudjohnsen has failed to settle in the French principality after joining AS Monaco just last August. He hasn’t scored a single goal in his nine appearances for Les Rouges et Blanc so far, and is now set to up sticks once more and team up again with Zola in a return to the Premier League after four years away from England’s top flight.
Zola is a keen admirer of Gudjohnsen after enjoying a successful spell together at Stamford Bridge. In their three seasons together up front for the Blues, they shared the princely sum of 79 goals.
Zola has been desperately trying to get another striker through the doors of Upton Park for some time as they look for the perfect partner for current top goalscorer Carlton Cole. A lack of funds denied the Italian from getting his man last summer, but following the club’s takeover this week by David Gold and David Sullivan, he has been given funds to spend in the transfer market and looks set to bag his number one target.
The Hammers are also looking to conclude a deal for 32-year-old Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy. The South African has been on the fringes of Sam Allardyce’s side so far this season and seems set to leave Ewood Park during the January transfer window.
The Cape Town-born forward is hoping for more regular first-team football in a bid to secure a place in the Bafana Bafana squad for this summer’s World Cup finals which take place in his homeland. Blackburn are said to be looking for a fee in the region of £2.5 million for the striker, who is also being tracked by Turkish club Galatasaray.
Reports from French website sofoot.com have linked Blackburn Rovers with a move for French defender Paul Baysse.
It would appear that members of the Blackburn Rovers scouting team have been spotted at various Ligue 2 games this season, and the target deemed most likely is Sedan defender Paul Baysse.
The Bordeaux-born stopped started his career with hometown side les Girondins, but left in 2007 without making an appearance to link up with Sedan initially on loan before signing a full deal last summer. .
His consistent performances at the heart of the Sedan back-line have attracted interest from Sunderland and West Ham United, as well as Lille and Boulogne, both French top-flight teams. However, it would now appear that Blackburn Rovers have emerged as leading contenders to snap him up, as the Ewood Park based side look to exploit the French market as they did last season when they acquired Gael Givet from Monaco.
Standing at just over 6’, Baysse, who has featured for France at every age level up to and including the U-21’s, is excellent in the air and with five goals during his brief time with Sedan will be a threat at both ends of the pitch. Therefore just the sort of player that Big Sam likes!
If Blackburn Rovers can’t prise Baysse away from Sedan, who have already declared their intention to try and retain their starlet who is under contract until 2011, it’s thought Plan B revolves around young Auxerre player Kevin Malaga.
The 22-year-old has been with Auxerre after coming through their famed youth system, which has produced players like Djibril Cisse and Didier Deschamps. Malaga apparently impressed the Blackburn Rovers scouts in attendance at Auxerre’s round of 64 match at Amiens in the French Cup back in December, and is considered a good second option if the plan to sign Baysse falls through.
French sports-paper L’Equipe has reported today that one-time Premiership target Colin Kazim-Richards looks ready to ignore the interest of both Blackburn and Sunderland and opt instead for a new challenge in France.
The Turkish international was available for transfer after being axed from the Fenerbahce first team after getting caught up in a sex scandal last year. The former Sheffield United forward was one of a number of first-teamers allegedly involved in sex-marathons at various hotels around the Istanbul capital. Upon hearing the news his manager, Christoph Daum no stranger to controversy himself, promptly dropped Kzaim-Richards and several others from the Fenerbahce first team.
The 16-times capped Turkish international was targeted by several Premiership clubs including Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland, with Hull City also credited with an interest.
However, it would seem as if Toulouse have stolen in with an offer for Kazim Richards on an initial loan basis and a subsequent full deal to remain in France at the end of the season. Toulouse consider the East-London born player to be the ideal foil for Andre-Pierre Gignac their French international, who has scored goals by the bucket-load, but has never had any genuine support in the team.
The news that Kazim-Richards is having a medical at the time of writing in the south-west of France will be a blow to the Premiership-pair both of whom could use some attacking options at the moment. Blackburn in particular have looked devoid of ideas in the wide areas, resorting to using Michel Salgado against Aston Villa down the right-wing against Aston Villa last week in the Carling Cup.
