Confederations Cup 2005 – Germany

Confederations Cup – Germany 2005

The 7th edition of the FIFA Confederations Cup took place in Germany from the 15th-29th June 2005, giving the German authorities a chance to test some of their venues and logistics ahead of hosting the World Cup the following year. Eight teams contested the tournament, initially split into two groups of four, with the top two from each group going through to the semi finals.

The qualified teams were: Germany (host), Brazil (World Cup 2002 and Copa America 2004 Winner), Mexico (CONCACAF Gold Cup 2003 Winner), Tunisia (African Cup of Nations 2004 Winner), Greece (Euro 2004 Winner), Japan (Asian Cup 2004 Winner), Australia (OFC Nations Cup 2004 Winner) and Argentina (Copa America 2004 Runner-up), who qualified because the winner, Brazil, had already qualified.
