Confederations Cup – South Africa 2009

The 8th FIFA Confederations Cup took place from the 14th-28th of June 2009 in South Africa as a dress rehearsal for the hosts ahead of the 2010 World Cup. Four different venues were used, including Ellis Park, Johannesburg, which hosted the final. There were two groups of four teams playing each other once, with the group winners meeting the runners-up from the other group in the semi finals. In addition to the trophy, the winners of the final received prize money of US$3.75 million (from a total prize fund of US$17.6 million).

The eight qualified teams were:
Italy (World Cup holders)
Spain (European champions)
Brazil (South American champions)
Egypt (African champions)
USA (North American champions)
Iraq (Asian champions)
New Zealand (Oceania champions)
South Africa (hosts)
The prizes were as follows:
Winners: US$3.75 million
Runners Up: US$3.25 million
3rd Place: US$2.75 million
4th Place: US$2.25 million
5th-8th place: US$1.4 million

Match tickets could be purchased from the official tournament website (see link below) and cost from US$30-100 for group games, US$50-120 for the semis and US$60-200 for the final.
