Latest Developments
A transitional championship was played during 2008 and 2009 but was declared invalid due to a number of irregularities. An article entitled ‘Benin: towards a reform of the national championship’ was published on the FA website on the 2nd July 2009 outlining details of a restructured championship for the 2009-10 season. A new professional championship comprising a top division of 14 clubs and a second division of 12 clubs is envisaged. Clubs can apply for a place in the championship between the 15th and 30th of July and the list of successful clubs will be published in the first week of September with the competition expected to start in October.
