The Netherlands Antilles / Dutch Antilles was an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands from 15 December 1954 to 10 October 2010. From a football perspective it was acting autonomously from as early as 1921 when the FA was founded. It joined FIFA in 1932 and CONCACAF in 1961. It was composed of six islands: Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius. Aruba seceded on 1 January 1986 and joined CONCACAF and FIFA in its own right in 1988. Upon dissolution in 2010 Curaçao joined CONCACAF and FIFA, Sint Maarten had already joined CONCACAF in 1998 but remains outside FIFA and Bonaire became an associate member of CONCACAF in 2013. Saba and Sint Eustatius are not currently members of either organisation (as of June 2013).

The Nederlands Antilliaanse Voetbal Unie (NAVU) was the governing body of football in the country and they controlled the national team and the championship, which was contested by teams from Bonaire, Curaçao (and Aruba up to 1985). The national team never qualified for the World Cup and their best performance at a tournament was coming third in the CONCACAF championships in 1963 and 1969. Their first international match (23-07-1934) was played under the name of Curacao and resulted in a 3-1 win over Dutch Guiana. Their final match (31-10-2010) was also against Dutch Guiana (now known as Suriname) in Willemstad and finished 2-2.
