Euro 1992 – Sweden

Euro 1992 – Sweden

Group A ¦ Group B ¦ Knockout ¦ Top Scorers

The tournament format remained unchanged for the third time running for the ninth edition of the European Championships in Sweden. Denmark’s players famously came off the beach to win the trophy with next to no preparation, having been invited to replace Yugoslavia at the last minute. Most of the Danish squad were already enjoying post-season holidays when UN sanctions against war-torn Yugoslavia forced them out of the finals and the Danes took their place having finished second in the same qualifying group. Yet more political changes meant that the former Soviet Union members competed as the ‘Commonwealth of Independent States’ (CIS).
