Euro 2004 – Portugal

Euro 2004 – Portugal

Group A ¦ Group B ¦ Group C ¦ Group D ¦ Knockout ¦ Top Scorers

The twelfth edition of the European Championships retained the sixteen teams in four groups of four format. Unfancied Greece produced one of the biggest shocks ever at a major finals to win the trophy against hosts Portugal. Their success was built on a strong work ethic and good defensive organisation with the ability to score on the break and from set pieces. England’s Wayne Rooney burst on to the international scene with four goals in the group stage but limped off with a broken metatarsal early in the quarter final.
