The ninth World Cup will be remembered as one of the greatest tournaments in history and the first to reach a large television audience around the world. Nine teams travelled from Europe, three from South America, Morocco from Africa, El Salvador joined the host nation from Central America and Israel came through an Asia/Oceania qualifying group.
